Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and is by far my favorite bookish meme. However, this topic was hard because this post could have alternatively been titled: “The Post in which Stormy Realizes How Many of Her Favorite Authors are Dead”. I think that’s because most of my favorite authors are from my childhood, so some of the books they’ve written are quite old. Madeleine L’Engle comes to mind. This realization made this topic quite difficult, but I gave it my best shot. So, my picks:
1. Marissa Meyer
I don’t care that she only has two books out, in the same series. After seeing her creativity in Cinder, I will buy whatever she writes next. Luckily, the next couple of books will be in the Lunar chronicles, so I know what I’m getting into, happily!
2. Veronica Roth
This one’s similar. Divergent and Insurgent just blew me away, so I’ll eagerly buy whatever Veronica Roth decides to write after the series is over.
I actually haven’t read The Casual Vacancy yet, but I will. I know it’s completely different from Harry Potter, and I’m actually quite excited about that. I think Rowling is a fantastic writer and I would love for her to write a book in every genre, just to show us the scope of her ability.
4. Rachel Held Evans
Not fiction, but still. I find Rachel Held Evans is so often the voice of reason I crave, and neither her books nor her blog has ever disappointed me.
5. Marilynne Robinson
I had to read both Housekeeping and Gilead for school, but I’m so glad I did. Marilynne Robinson just has such a way with words that makes me believe that every line she writes is poetry. I had the opportunity to listen to her speak once and read from her book, and she sounds just the way you think she would when reading. Gilead is just beautiful.
6. Shauna Niequist
Another non-fiction one. Bittersweet is one of my favorite books because I could just relate so well. She has a cookbook coming out soon, and I’m excited for it!
Ah, I tried really hard to get to ten today, but just couldn’t! This list could have been much longer if I included deceased authors, but I decided since I wouldn’t actually get to buy anything new from them to keep it off the list.
