My Top 25 Songs + Book Pairings {4}

Posted March 22, 2013 by Stormy in Blogging / 0 Comments

Every couple of weeks, I’ve been going through my top 25 most played songs and pairing them with books. I know music + books is normally a winning combination, but while many people make literary playlists, I wanted to challenge myself to pair books and songs starting with the songs and then choosing a book. Because 25 songs + book pairings would be overwhelming all at once, I’ve been doing this in sets of five. You can read part 1, part 2, and part 3 as well.

16. White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons

Book Pairing: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Granted, the first verse of this song and the book don’t pair especially well, but I think there’s a similar mood to both–quite a bit of rage, anger, and loss of innocence. Poor Todd Hewitt.

17.  Take Me as I Am by Tonic

Book Pairing: Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Ah. This could be the song of the kids who are sent off to be unwound. Quite a heart-wrenching book and musical pairing, in my opinion, but it was the first book I thought of when I wrote the song title down.

18. Swallow the Sea by Matthew Perryman Jones

Book Pairing: Looking for Alaska by John Green

When I hear this song, I think of wanting to run away from problems and everything else in life, and this song reminds you that it’s not normally possible. I think it’s so fitting from Alaska because she’s constantly running away from her pain, only to be forced to embrace it at points.

19. Holding You by Katie Herzig

Book Pairing: As soon as I started drafting this post, I knew the perfect book to go along with this song: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. It’s seriously perfect for Hadley and Oliver’s relationship. I just cannot think of a more perfect song and book match. I love that book and I love this song and I love both of them together.

20. Sit Down by the Fire by The Veils

Book Pairing: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

There’s a timeless quality in this song; sitting by the fire, time passing, and yes, sorrow. I remember those types of ideas featuring prominently in Tuck Everlasting, which made me think it would be a great book for this song.

My Top 25 Songs + Book Pairings {2}

You might recall that I’ve been going through my 25 most played songs and choosing a book to pair with each song. I’ve been doing it in posts with five songs each, since I don’t want a post to get too overwhelming, so up to day is songs #6-10. And remember, I never claimed there was […]
