Book Blogger Love-a-Thon 2015 Introduction Post!

Posted February 21, 2015 by Stormy in Books / 49 Comments

I’m participating in the Book Blogger Love-a-Thon for the second year in a row, which means you might be seeing more post from me this weekend than normal. Just a head’s up! The Love-a-Thon is being hosted by  Alexa (at Alexa Loves Books) and is running throughout the weekend. This is my introduction post where you get to find out some things about me & the blog!

1. What’s your name?

I’m Stormy.

Hi there!

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

I’m blogging from Texas, and also the land of slow internet(which gets annoying, let me tell you).

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I’ve been blogging off and on in various blogging communities for about four years. None of them stuck, because I wasn’t really passionate about any of the things I was blogging about–or I was, but not in a committed way. I go through interest easily. But I’ve always been interested in books. I hoped when I started Book.Blog.Bake. that it would be the one that would stick. And it has so far!

4. How did you come up with your blog name?

I like books. I like blogging. I like baking, and I also liked alliteration.

5. What genre do you read & review most on your blog?

It’s a mix really, but I review mostly young adult contemporary or science fiction and fantasy books.

6. What other types of post do you do on your blog, other than reviews?

I post a Top Ten Tuesday nearly every week and frequent discussion posts. Some of my favorite discussions are my posts about what books taught me and 21 questions to ask yourself when you’re in a book blogging slump. I also sporadically do some features like my If TV Characters Read YA series.

7. Best blogging experience so far?

I think probably being in the acknowledgements of Dangerous Boys!

8. Favorite thing about the blogging community?

I love just the general EXCITEMENT and having other people who love talking about books. I love when, for example, I re-read a favorite series and talk about it on twitter & people can chime in. It’s just a book-based community aspect I don’t have anywhere else in my life. There are so many smart & talented people in the blogging community, & I’m glad I’ve made some friends in it.

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for in 2015!

1. Winter by Marissa Meyers
2. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
3. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
4. Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman
5. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

That was tough! There were a good few books I considered, but I think these are my top 5.

10. What’s an underrated book or series you think everyone should read?

11. Which book boy or girl would be your BFF?

I feel like this is probably a common answer, but I’d like Hermione to be my BFF please.

12. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I just really like stories in all sorts of forms. I love writing(probably #1 interest of mine besides reading), watching TV, and music. All of those things I get really into. And then other things I enjoy but am slightly less passionate about: tennis(playing, not watching), baking, and sometimes I like to dabble with photography but I haven’t really dedicated the time to that one to learn a lot.

13. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

I’m not a huge shopper, to be honest. I don’t like shopping for clothes & I don’t like owning a lot of stuff that’s not useful. That being said, I have a weak spot for stationary & scarves.

14. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song–and it’s your song. What song would be playing?

I never know how to answer that question, despite how much I love music, probably because 85% of the music I listen to is not the music that would ever be playing at a party. Keeping that in mind, I’ll go with Chase This Light by Jimmy Eat World. It’s not the #1 song I’d pick as “my” song, but it’s the most upbeat song that I associate with myself for some nostalgic reasons.

15. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a TV show/film you want turned into a book.

I think The Lunar Chronicles could make an amazing TV show.

  1. Hi Stormy! I like your name and name. 🙂

Whoa, being in the acknowledgments of Dangerous Boys? So AWESOME! I’ve been in the acknowledgments of a book, though not as my blog. It’s seriously an amazing feeling.

The Raven King for sure!! Love my Raven boys, but I have a feeling this book will destroy my soul. And yesss to the Lunar Chronicles! That would be an awesome TV show.

Thanks for stopping by The Fox’s Hideaway during the love-a-thon! 🙂 It was so nice meeting you!

    • Stormy

      Thank you!
I am very nervous/excited/scared for The Raven King. It’s going to destroy me. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be Deathly Hallows-like intensity because I care about these characters SO much.

  2. Yes – stationary! We have a ban on my buying paper products in my house actually. Its sad.

I think Hermione is a fabulous choice for a book BFF!

    • Stormy

I would have trouble succeeding with that ban. . . but I probably should enact one of my own. I have whole bins full of paper products! Lots of stationary & also JOURNALS. I have enough journals to last me through probably 2020. I need to stop on the buying of those items.

  3. Erin @ The Hardcover Lover

Hello, Stormy! Nice to meet you! I had a penpal named Stormy in elementary school, but she was from Virginia. lol

I am in need of Winter! Like now! I haven’t gotten to Fairest yet, but to be honest, I’d been wanting Winter more.

    • Stormy

I haven’t gotten to Fairest yet. I ordered it from Amazon, but I had it bundled with my pre-order of ADSOM for free shipping. I want to read it, but I’m not as excited about it as I am for Winter.

  4. Great post. Love your name! I am not a big shopper either (except for books, of course). I only buy clothes when I absolutely have to. I do like buying purses though. 🙂

    • Stormy

      Thank you!
I like the idea of shopping for clothes. . . but I hate actually doing the work(I am a lazy shopper). Trying on jeans is my idea of a nightmare because nothing ever fits right. Go up a size & then they don’t fit in the hips, go down and then they’re too short, etc.

  5. Hi Stormy!*waves*I think I’ve seen you around the blogosphere before, but this is the first time I am visiting your blog so nice to meet you!
It’s awesome that you love to bake!I am not that good at it,though I try my best often.I hope I can be better soon!
The Lunar Chronicles would make amazing TV Series.I am curious who they’ll cast as Thorne.

    • Stormy

Baking is stress-relief for me most of the time, but it’s harder now that I don’t have a kitchen all to myself. Most of the time baking turns out well for me, but even with experience I definitely have slip-ups sometimes. I remember I was making orange scones a few months ago, and I mixed up the butter I was suppose to use(I accidentally used the salted butter) AND forgot the orange essence. . . it was a monumental disaster, but the baking part was still fun.

    • Stormy

I always forget how many bloggers are from TX until I started seeing the answers around. Makes sense though, since TX is so large. I’m so excited for Winter, but definitely sad the series will be over.

  6. Oh wow, you were in the acknowledgments for Dangerous Boys?! That’s amazing!!!! I love your answer to #14, most of my favorites are exactly party songs either … although I sure dance to them at my own house. Your answer kind of reminded me of the fact that I am obsessed with the Skyrim soundtrack and am often dancing to it… imagine that playing at a party 😛 I think The Lunar Chronicles would make an awesome TV show too!!!

    • Stormy

Yeah, I totally freaked out when I saw it! I loved Dangerous Girls so much so seeing that in Dangerous Boys totally made my day(week, month, etc.)
Yeah, I’m pretty sure 97% of my music would get me kicked out of being the DJ of any party. Most of my favorite music is great for driving around & talking to friends, but not party-ish in the slightest.

  7. I love the way I can fangirl and discuss my favorite reads or current reads with people because of my book blog! It always makes me feel less alone, and I love having friends all over the world too. Also – alliteration is lovely, and so is your blog name.

Thank you for joining the Love-a-Thon!

    • Stormy

Yes, it definitely keeps away the lonliness knowing that other people share my hobbies. I’m so grateful to this community for just that alone!

  8. Cee

I AM SO PUMPED FOR ADSOM. (Though not surprising since it’s Victoria frickin’ Schwab!)

I’m a sucker for stationary too. If I had a lot of money, I would buy sooo much. (Though, I would end up not using it because ALL THE PRETTTY.)

    • Stormy

ADSOM! It comes out tomorrow! I neeeeed my pre-order to ship.
That’s the thing with stationary–I buy it, and then I don’t want to use it because it’s so pretty. . . so it kinda just piles up, sadly!

  9. I love Jimmy Eat World! Great choice in music right there! 😀

I remember the first time I saw my blog in the acknowledgements of a book! I almost died! It was a huge thing!

This community is so great! I know there’s drama at times, but overall- I really love it. I need this outlet to talk about books!

    • Stormy

Chase This Light has been a staple of my music taste since high school for sure.
Yes, exactly as far as the community goes–no community is perfect, but this one means a lot to me.

  10. Amy M. @ AYA M. Productions

Hello Stormy! I wish I had thought about participating in LoveAThon before. It seems like so much fun, and I’m loving everyone’s answers.

& I’d totally LOVE Hermione to be my BFF. She’d be a great person to have on hand when you get into trouble that’s for sure.

    • Stormy

Hermione’s just the best! Though as much as I like the idea of her being my bookish BFF, I think we might actually be *too* similar to actually be friends. . . but since she’s fictional, I can just pretend.

    • Stormy

That’s exactly how I feel! I want to read it desperately, but I don’t want the story of Blue & her Raven Boys to end.

  11. I listened to Jimmy Eat World basically nonstop in high school and college. I still love their music, and Chase This Light is one of my favorites. Good pick for a tv show! I would love for that to actually happen.

    • Stormy

The strange thing about that song is that I don’t think I ever listened to the whole CD it came from(though I totally rocked out to the one before ALL THE TIME) but Chase This Light has just been this music staple in my library for so many years!

  12. SCAAARVES. I LOVE SCARVES!! Also stationery. I completely agree. I am the sort of person who loves shopping in general but scarves and stationery are two very awesome things. 😀

HERMIONEEEE. I would totally want her to be my bff too. She’s the best. Still probably my eternal favourite female character ever.

Omg, Vengeance Road! The cover for that is so awesome. 😀 😀 And I really really need to read The Raven Boys. I haven’t actually read any books by Stiefvater yet. I KNOW, I KNOW, I REALLY MUST. I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles either. ): But ahhh, I know I will probably love them like everyone else does!

    • Stormy

I love shopping for scarves because there’s so many pattern options(and it’s a plus that you don’t actually have to change to try them on). Too bad I don’t live in a place where I get to wear them more.

I’m in love with the Vengeance Road cover. Love. It’s my favorite book cover I’ve seen in a long, long while. I would totally buy and frame it as a poster. Ahh I love most of Maggie Stiefvater’s books. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Shiver trilogy, but pretty much everything after that has been fantastic. I always recommend starting with The Scorpio Races because it’s a stand-alone, but The Raven Boys is amazing. It’s one of the few series since Harry Potter where I feel really *emotionally* attached to the characters.

  13. Hi Stormy! Happy Love-A-Thon! I still need to read the Lunar Chronicles XD I feel so behind on so many series lol. Just this month, I finally started Throne of Glass! Loved it! I love alliteration too, hehe, I used it in my book blog name! ^^ Enjoy your weekend, Stormy! 😀

    • Stormy

Well, you can’t go wrong with Throne of Glass OR The Lunar Chronicles, so at least series-wise that means you have a lot to look forward to!

  14. I love baking too! In fact, I plan to start posting about cookbooks on my blog, because I think it would bring me a lot of joy to do that. I’m so excited about Winter my Marissa Meyer!

I agree with you about the Lunar Chronicles turning into a TV show–I think that’s a brilliant idea!

    • Stormy

Oh, posting about cookbooks would be fun. I like browsing cookbooks, but I don’t own any because there are so many recipes online now, but I think when I have my own place it’ll be pretty likely I start a small collection.

  15. I am so ready for Raven King and ADSOM!! Those are definitely both high on my list for this year. I think 2015 is such an awesome year for great books — though I think I say that a little bit every year!

Lunar Chronicles would HAVE to be a mini-series to get all that goodness in. I think it would be awesome.

    • Stormy

Ah I’m so glad ADSOM is so close!(as in, releases tomorrow, though it’ll be a few days until I get my copy b/c I pre-ordered). The Raven King will be destroyed me, but I’m here for it.

I’d love to see a TLC mini-series. It could be epic. I’ll be over here dreaming of this now.

  16. I absolutely adore your name! Ahh I’m so jealous C:

I’ve heard so many amazing things about the Lunar Chronicles! I must get to them at some point because I’m pretty late to this party as it is.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  17. Hi Stormy!

I would want Hermione to be my BFF too! She’s such an inspiring lady! Have you read the Percy Jackson series? I think Annabeth Chase from the series is rather like Hermione; I think she would make a good BFF too ;p

I really love your blog design! Did you design it?

    See you around for #LoveAThon!

    • Stormy

I think I’ll always love JK Rowling for giving us a great character like Hermione. I haven’t read Percy Jackson, but I have the first book on my shelf.

I’m actually using one of the themes I picked out when I first migrated my blog from to that I got free through my hosts, and then I did some minor tweaks, but for the most part I’m actually just using the standard design! I found some patterns online to make the background.
