December’s always kind of a strange month. There’s the post-Thanksgiving week followed by everything descended into Christmas chaos! I personally love Christmas, so I have no problems with it, but it can get really overwhelming. This December was a little weirder in that respect because I spent a good chunk at it at my dad’s house–the longest I’ve been at home for almost two years, since typically I can’t spend that much time away. There’s also a good chance I might be moving back home at the end of January, so that was on my mind too.
Other than those things, December past in a bit of a blur! It was actually one of the best months I’ve had in awhile. While I’ve been pretty down about my job search and “WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE???” these past few months, I felt TONS better in December! I’m not sure if that was the holidays or family or friends or what, but I’ll take it.
I also had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday, so I’m guessing that was fun(I’m writing this in the past). Not really an awesome way to end the year, but somehow so, so fitting for 2014. I haven’t exactly gotten along with this year(like, I’d consider 2014 the worst year I’ve had since 2008, and 2008 was BAD), so I’ve never been more excited to see January 1st.
I watched the first season of Friday Night Lights, and liked it WAY more than I was expecting. I had heard good things about the show, but I always rejected it because it’s about a community in a small town in Texas and I’m from a small town in Texas, and generally I expect stories set in Texas to be exaggerated stereotypes. As it turned out, I’ve never seen a show with teenagers depict something that was SO SIMILAR to my high school experience, especially since I *was* in high school when this show was being filmed. It was a little strange to see how SPOT-ON everything was. Football culture, church culture, the way everything knew everything about one another. . . yup. The only thing I thought was strange was how there wasn’t a reoccurring Hispanic character, especially since the show actually had story lines about racism and racial issues, so clearly the writers were willing to think about issues like that. That bugged me, but other than that the season was really good. Probably one of the best first seasons of any show I’ve seen.
