My blog is growing up(little by little!). When I started blogging, I told myself I would stick with it for SIX months and then re-evaluate. My blogoversary is coming up in two months, so it’s still away a way, but I’ve already began getting excited about it. So in the spirit of sticking with my blog & loving it, I thought I’d celebrate today by making today De-Lurking Day/Party!

I saw a health blog(which is no longer in existence) do this a few years ago, and I thought it was a great idea. I’m so grateful for everyone who stops by and comments on my blog at all, but I know the ratio of visitors/subscribers to commenters is just low in general internet-wide. I was definitely a lurker before I was a blogger, because I was always afraid of making a fool of myself in the comments section. Today, however, is a judgement free day, so if you’ve lurked before and wanted to de-lurk, consider this an open invitation!

And in the spirit of celebrating, I thought I’d just share some facts about me in this post– a sort of get-to-know you of the blogger behind Book.Blog.Bake. Hopefully, if you are interested in de-lurking(or just commenting in general!), this will let you know a little bit about me.

So basically, I decided to interview myself/give myself a survey. Hurray!

The Party Introduction

Fun Facts About Me

In case you were wondering, Stormy IS my real name! Every time I use “Stormy” on the internet people tend to assume it’s a pseudonym, but nope! If you’re curious, my middle name is Dawn. Yes, my name is Stormy Dawn, which is why my email address & twitter handle are stormydawnc.

My first job was at a drive-in movie theater! I took tickets at the box office most of the time and sometimes worked the concession stand. It was less fun than it sounds.

My college degree is in Professional Writing with a double minor in Religion and Corporate Communications(Quite a mix, I know).

I am 22 years old(and my least favorite thing about this is when people sing Taylor Swift at me).

I was in band in high school and played the clarinet.

When I was little, I was obsessed with England and all things British. I would make hot tea, even though I’m from Texas and that’s pretty much a crime against iced tea, and would try and speak only in British lingo.

My all-time favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls(which I tweet about quite frequently), and you are ALWAYS welcome to start a conversation with me about Gilmore Girls.

I am allergic to nickel and therefore am not typically a big fan of jewelry. I always wear a watch and my college ring and that’s typically it.

On the subject of allergies, I’m also allergic to Christmas trees, which is quite sad. It’s my favorite Holiday, but none of my family can have real trees when I’m around, and I spend a good majority of the month sick, usually.

I am also allergic to most bath soaps with fragrance in them(so yeah, I have weird allergies, but most of them are just topical, which is good, I suppose!).

I have THREE nieces! My sister & I are 16 years a part. My oldest niece and youngest niece are 16 years a part. It really is a cycle for my family!

I love to travel but I HATE flying. Hate it. Planes are gross. So maybe I don’t really like to travel. . . I just like to be in new places. The getting there, a.k.a. traveling, isn’t so fun.

I have a staunch belief that onions must be the most disgusting food that most people like known to man. YUCK. Please tell me how you eat these awful things.

I have really, really, REALLY terrible eyesight. Last time I was at the eye doctor’s, after taking my contacts out, instead of walking into the exam room, I walked into a wall.

I have a strange ability/social skill/awkwardness(depending on the situation), of taking a conversation from small talk to serious in about 90 seconds. Sometimes, it’s an ability because people like me a lot after I save us from the boring talking-about-the-weather. Sometimes it’s awkward because, well. . . some people get scared of talking that deep upon first meeting.

My Fear List(aka my fear landscape): Heights(eek!), enclosed spaces(reason #1 I hate being on a plane), waking up and finding out that my life up to this point has been a dream & I have to do it all over again(this was my biggest fear when I was 8 years old, and it still crops up from time to time), spiders, ROACHES, raw red meat(yuck), scorpions that are longer than my pinky(very specific, I know), and tornadoes.

The Favorites Round

Favorite Drink: Green Tea. Followed closely by my lifeblood, coffee.
Favorite Food: Shrimp Alfredo. Or French Fries.
Favorite color: Blue or green, depending on the day.
Least favorite color: RED. I dislike the color red with an intense passion. That’s why you pretty much never see it on the blog, or on me, or anywhere in my room. Strangely, though, red nail polish is the only color polish I like. Weird.
Favorite movie: All-time favorite has to be Singing in the Rain.
Favorite fruit: Strawberries!
Favorite sport: Tennis. I played in high school!
Favorite Snack: chocolate covered espresso beans
Favorite Doctor(Doctor Who): NINE. Yes, I’m in the tiny, tiny minority.

If I Lived in Books. . .

If I were in Harry Potter, I would be a Gryffindor(according to Pottermore, who repeatedly told me so).
And I have no idea why, but something tells me my favorite subject would be Charms.
If I were in Divergent, I would be Abnegation.
If I had to pick a character from a book to be my best friend, I would pick Caymen from The Distance Between Us. I love her sarcasm!

Some Commenting Prompts. . . Just for Fun

What’s your Hogwarts house?

What was your first job?

What would your fear landscape be?

  1. Your name is super awesome! I love learning all these facts about you! I’m with you on the fear of heights. I once went on a (required) hiking trip for school and I actually cried because I couldn’t go any further up the mountain. It was really steep and scary. Anyway, I’ve never watched The Wizard of Oz. I’ve seen glimpses of the movie but mehhhh. And yeah, waking up and realizing everything was a dream sucks!

  2. Your blog is so cute! And you have the best name every… Just wanted to let you know 😛 I’m not a lurker, but I did just discover your blog. So, maybe today’s part could be called the Finding BBB party for me 😀

I do need to wear glasses, but the most peculiar thing about my vision is that everything is made up of little tiny dots. I don’t notice them when I’m just going through the day, but when I focus on them, I’m able to see them (especially at night). I’ve asked some of my friends if they see things the same way, but all of them say no… I hope that there isn’t something irky going on inside my eyeballs…

My favorite Doctor is Ten… He’s just so… Ten 😛

  3. Shannelle C. (The Tracery of Ink)

That Taylor Swift song must suck. If that was me, even more so because I don’t like her. By the time I reach 22, I’d better post something saying no one must sing it to me or else I would have to be forced to kill them.

  4. I’ve only been around in the book blogging universe for a few months, so I’m not exactly a lurker, but Gilmore Girls? Singin’ In The Rain? The Ninth Doctor? My, what amazing taste you have! I’m sorry you’re allergic to Christmas trees, though! Fantastic post.

      • Me too, my friend. Me too. In fact, I spent last Sunday with season 3 of GG and may or may not be finishing off the final disc as I type this. Ah, the good old days.

  5. Awww my hubby is allergic to Christmas trees, too.

You know, I really really grieved with the 9th Doctor left. 10 is still my fave, I know that’s cliche and all, but it took me so long to get over 9!

    • stormydawnc

I REALLY, REALLY love 10, but love 9 *just* a little bit more. And then 11’s like a whole good feet below(not that I dislike 11, like some. I do like 11. I just don’t LOVE him, which I did for 9 & 10).

  6. Hahahahaha ONIONS! I think I might hate raisins the most. We may have already discussed this, but I also hate The Wizard of Oz. AUGH. I always thought I would end up in Ravenclaw, too, but Pottermore put me in Slytherin!

    What fun post. 😀

    • stormydawnc

Oh, raisins are pretty bad too. But if it was the apocalypse and I had a tin of raisins, I’d eat those. I don’t think I’d eat an onion.
Ah, I don’t know if we have, but I’m so glad you dislike the Wizard of Oz! It’s suppose to be such a “classic” story but I cannot STAND IT. And this includes retellings & everything! I don’t know why. I mean, I have some things I could list off that annoy me, but I’m really not sure WHY I dislike the story more than the others that annoy me.

    • stormydawnc

Nope, not alone! I put up with it because it gets me to cool places. But I can’t imagine using the word “like” or “enjoyable” to describe flying.

  7. We have some weird things in common!

    1. When I was little, I was obsessed with all things British, too. This never really ended in me, though.
    2. My sister and I are 11 years apart, and her daughter (my niece) and I are 11 years apart!
    3. I am allergic to everything.

A pretty big difference, though? Pottermore decided I’m a Slytherin. 🙂

    • stormydawnc

Haha, my British obsession hasn’t really ended. I think I’ve just managed to hide it slightly better. And oh, a Slytherin. Common Hogwarts knowledge tells me we probably shouldn’t be allowed to associate, but I’m a Gryffindor, so what are rules for? *tosses rule book out the window*.

  8. Hi Stormy! 🙂 What a cool post – it was great to learn all these interesting things about you! It’s amazing that Stormy is your real name (I admit, I’m one of the people who assumed it was a pseudonym), and I think it’s just so cool. Probably the coolest name ever! Stormy Dawn – sound like a heroine from an epic adventure story!

Sorry about your allergies, especially the Christmas tree one! The only thing I’m allergic to is penicillin, which is potentially deadly so.. yeah, not fun!

Thanks for sharing all these info with us! Great and fun post!
    See you around 🙂

    • stormydawnc

Haha, by now I’ve realized I do have to clarify that Stormy is my real name. I’m VERY grateful my allergies are not that harmful. The Christmas tree/pine/evergreen is the worst one, but at most I get flu-like symptoms.
