I haven’t posted a Saturday morning cup in a while because I’ve been a bit lazy with digging through deeper stuff in my life, but I still wanted to post something today after a few Saturdays off. SO, I thought I’d introduce a new feature(I know, I know, I hardly do anything but that). I love reading people’s Waiting on Wednesday posts about the books they’re looking forward to, but never really felt any desire to post any myself.
HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean I’m not excited about books that are on the horizon! I love getting excited about books that are still to-be-released. I love looking forward to new books and all the anticipation excitement! I also don’t want to ignore older titles though, so I thought I’d start a feature I’ll probably do once or twice a month called Looking Forward & Looking Behind. Basically, I’ll highlight some books that are still to-be released that I want to read, but also not ignore older books by spotlighting some that have been released and I haven’t read yet(but want to!).
So for this first Looking Forward & Looking Behind, I thought I’d show FIVE that will be released in these last FOUR months of 2013, and also FIVE books I own but haven’t read yet that were released anytime before May 2013.
1. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Release Date: September 10, 2013. SO CLOSE GUYS!
The story as I understand it: Cath is an incredibly shy, awkward, and social anxious freshman at college who has been used to the support of her twin Wren and whose comfort zone is being in the Simon Snow fandom, for which she writes fanfiction.
Gets Stormy bonus points for: Fandom, shy main characters, COLLEGE SETTING! Also, I know it doesn’t necessarily reflect on the quality of the story, but THAT COVER. I love how it’s simple but not boring, and how the two illustrated characters on the cover are interacting with the lettering.
2. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner
Release Date: December 10, 2013
The story as I understand it: Titanic in space! Spaceship crash!
Gets Stormy bonus points for: Again, the cover. Yes, I’m shallow! Also, HIGH early reviews, spaceship crash, and dual narrative. Also, my three Goodreads friends who have read it(and who often have different takes on books), ALL rated this book 5 stars.
3. Unbreathable by Hafsah Laziaf
Release Date: October 29, 2013.
The story as I understand it: Do I even care with that cover?? Kidding, kidding. Basically, humans have had to flee earth and live on a planet where oxygen in manufactured. Then one day the main character breathes some of the toxic air from the planet and . . . SURVIVES. Dun dun dun. Also, they discover earth still exist and there’s a race for Earth for various motives(hence the tagline).
Gets Stormy bonus points For: SPACE opera. Race for earth. Also, it’s written by the same person who is behind Icey Designs, and if her writing is as beautiful as her designing, I’m SOLD. And yes. . . the cover.
4. Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis
Release Date: September 24, 2013.
The story as I understand it: Water is scarce in Lynn’s world. Luckily, she & her mother have a pond on their land, a water source that allows them to survive. Lynn has to protect their water source from strangers & scavengers, all in order to survive.
Gets Stormy bonus points for: Survival story, post-apocalyptic, and I believe it’s rather focused on a small cast of characters, which I like from time to time. Also, I’ve been told it’s gritty.
5. The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas
Release Date: September 17, 2013.
The story as I understand it: Honestly, I have NO idea except it’s high fantasy and is coming highly recommended. It’s a book I feel I just kind of want to go in blind for, you know? But feel free to check out the Goodreads summary.
Gets Stormy bonus points for: Highly recommended from friends. Also, promised epic-ness.(Book, please don’t let me down.)
1. How Zoe Made Her Dreams(Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer
Original Publishing Date: April 23, 2013.
The story as I understand it: Zoe has an internship at a theme park(think Disney-world). It should be exciting but her boss is. . . well, not awesome. All the fun things that come with such a predicament. And romance, I’m assuming, from the cover.
Gets Stormy bonus points for: Sarah Strohmeyer wrote one of my favorite books I read this year, Smart Girls Get What They Want. It was cute & fun, a light contemporary, and I expect the same lovely humor and characterization that made me love that book so much.
2. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Original Publishing Date: February 5, 2013.
The story as I understand it: The sequel to Shatter Me. Juliette is now at Omega Point, the place for people with the superpowers. Lots of decisions to be made. More love triangle. Warner, Adam, Kenji.
Stormy bonus points for: It’s a bit of a brick of a book. Also, more unique writing style, more Juliette, more characters. Omega Point is kind of a super-power compound, which is pretty freakin’ cool.
3. Just One Year by Gayle Forman
Original Publishing Date: January 8, 2013.
The story as I understand it: Privileged good girl Allyson is sent to Europe. She meets Willem, and they have a whirlwind thing. Very much an Allyson finding-herself story from what I understand. Lots of love & loss.
Gets Stormy bonus points for: EUROPE SETTING! Also, Allyson is in college, so yay-college aged protagonists. I am waiting to read this one until Just One Year comes out, so I shall not suffer like so many of you have for the past few months. Yay!
4. Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Original Publishing Date: June 14, 2011.
The story as I understand it: Honestly, this is another I’m going in pretty blind. All I know is that there’s timey-wimey stuff, and that’s enough for me.
Gets Stormy Bonus Points for: Time travel(or time something. . . I assume travel? But time plays a big role). Also, this is a completed series and I have the first two books, so I can binge-read the series.
5. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
Original Publishing Date: August 7, 2012.
The story as I understand it: Celeana is this awesome assassin. She’s been serving in some mines as punishment for some crimes. There’s a competition she has to compete in for promise of her freedom. Then competitors start dying, and Celeana starts solving the MYSTERY. Also, apparently there’s this guard, Chaol, who I absolutely must meet.
Stormy bonus factors: Sounds like an awesome lead character. Also, SO many people loved it and I’ve been told to get on this ASAP by at LEAST five people. It’s quickly becoming a favorite series of the blogosphere on average. SO. . . yeah! Throne of Glass.
Those are FIVE books I’m really looking forward to this fall and FIVE books I’m looking behind to! So. . Read any of these? Suggestions for which to read first? What are YOU looking forward or behind to?
