Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013

toptentuesday

Once again, I’m participating in The Broke and the Bookish’s Top Ten Tuesday, in which various bloggers voice their top ten list on a particular topic. And what’s a better topic for New Year’s day than the top ten books I resolve to read in 2013?

1.  Jane Eyre

I WILL finish this book this year! Every time I start it, I love it, but something happens(normally, school starts), and all I want is light reading. 2013 will be the year I finish Jane Eyre.

2. the third book in the Divergent trilogy

I’m pre-ordering this one. I’ve never pre-ordered a book before, but I am so excited for this book that isn’t even named yet! I don’t have to resolve to read this book, because it’s probably the book I’m looking forward to the most in all of 2013.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

3. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest

For two reasons: 1)I read the first two books in the trilogy and I want to know what happens, and 2) I rashly spent $20 on the hardcover copy of this book.

4. Any book by John Green

I’ve never read John Green. I wish to remedy this fact. (I won’t be reading the Fault in our Stars, though. I’m not ready for a  book  in which cancer plays a large part). I’m thinking Paper Towns, but I might change my mind to Looking for Alaska(I welcome suggestions, by the way!)

Through the Ever Night

5. Through the Ever Night

I wasn’t quite as impressed with Under the Never Sky as I wanted to be, but I did enjoy the first book, and this is a series I want to finish. Since the first book was enjoyable, but not overwhelmingly so, I feel this might be one of those series I just forget to come back to, and I don’t want that to happen, so it’s a bookish resolution this year.

Looks like today’s a top five! There are other books I hope to read this year, of course, but these are the ones that I would say I’m absolutely resolved to read.

Hoping you might change your mind about The Fault in Our Stars 🙂 While it is heartbreaking, it is also perfect and sweet and funny. And ohhh. Through the Ever Night is perfect 😀 I hope you enjoy all of these when you get to read them. 😉
    Love, Carina @ Carina’s Books

    • I definitely want to read The Fault in Our Stars at some point. . . when I’m emotionally prepared! And great to hear about Through the Ever Night–almost every review I’ve read said it’s better than Under the Never Sky, so I’m excited.

  2. Jen Pace

i loved “the fault in our stars” but didn’t like “paper towns”… i just hated margo and thought she was selfish and annoying

  3. We definitely have to read a John Green book! I also want to read the Divergent series, but who knows if I will actually be able to get to it. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I am new follower because your blog is awesome. Really, I browsed around and read your posts and you are a great writer. Happy new year and good luck with your reading goals 🙂

    • Thanks for the follow & kind words! And now more than ever I am determined to read a John Green book! I just really need to go ahead and move one to the top of the reading list so I’ll actually do it.

  4. I still need to pick up Insurgent. And I’m not sure if I’m going to pick up Through the Ever Night. I love the covers, but I didn’t care for the first book. Great list!

Thanks for visiting my Top Ten.

    • I really loved Insurgent, but it’s quite different from Divergent at times. I thought Under the Never Sky was all right, but not awesome, but I’m going to give Through the Ever Night a chance and then decide to continue or not.

  5. I love your list! And yes, you MUST read John Green! I read them in the order they were published, and Paper Towns and Will Grayson, Will Grayson were my favorites. I also loved The Fault in Our Stars, but I don’t blame you for putting that one off for a while. But all his books are fantastic! I need to read Under the Never Sky and I can’t wait for the 3rd book in the Divergent series!

Thanks so much for stopping by my TTT, and Happy New Year!

    • I’m definitely leaning towards Paper Towns or Looking for Alaska at the moment! I got both kindle samples and I have to say I’m leaning towards Paper Towns at the moment, but then I hear that Looking for Alaska is just wonderful and I put off reading one of his books because I can’t decide which one to buy!

    • I’m slightly worried that he might be hit-or-miss with me too, because everyone just raves about his work and I’m not sure *anything* could live up to the hype I’ve built in my head. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite novels hands down. Most people are Jane Austen fans, and don’t get me wrong, I love her too, but I love Charlotte Bronte more. John Green’s newest book, The Fault in Our Stars is brilliant, but I’ve also read Looking for Alaska, which is more accessible.

    • I have a feeling if I can ever finish it, Jane Eyre will be one of my favorites as well, because every time I start it I fall in love, but then always get distracted!

I see we share some, not from my top 10 but from my ultimate 2013 reading list.

    Thanks for stopping by.
    Happy New Year!
