2012 was a pretty good year, I must say. Book-wise I read 10 books over my goal and found a lot of new favorites. In life, I had two great internships that really helped me narrow down some career options, my last Latin class ever, and a 4.0 semester. I also made quite a few new friends, which is not something I expected to do as a junior/senior in college, but I’m glad it happened. With 2013 on the horizon, here’s what I’m looking forward to in the new year:
In Life I’m Looking Forward To:
- Graduation. OK, at heart, I am a school-lover. I enjoy learning and classes, and I’ve thrived in a college environment. Still, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to graduation, just a little bit. Even though I’m going to be really sad to leave my university home after four years, I’m just so excited to have accomplished a degree. I know most people grew up knowing they would go to college because their parents did, but as a first generation college student I didn’t, and I’m just incredibly happy that I completed this major life goal of mine.
- Classes. There are a few classes I’m taking just to complete my degree requirements, but I’m also really excited about my theology of language and science class, my creative writing class, and my guitar class. I think Spring 2013 might be the semester of creativity.
- Beginnings. As of now, I’m still unsure what I’ll be doing after the big graduation day, but I’m taking a “stress-less” approach to it(or trying to) and instead of freaking out about it, going to be excited for all the possibilities.
- My New Year resolutions, which in general I’m pretty good at sticking with. I haven’t finalized all of my resolutions yet(working on that today!) but the one I’m most excited about is to write 1,000 words a day. I may not have time to write just pages and pages of writing everyday, but a 1,000 words is a reachable goal.
Books I’m Looking Forward To:
The third book in the Divergent trilogy
The yet-to-be-named book is probably the book I’m looking forward to the most in 2013. I’m ready to be back with Four and Tris!
Let’s just say I’m excited for this one. Immediately upon reading the summary I muttered something to myself that sounded something like, “This is such a me book!”. I love it when that happens and I’ve heard only good things about the book so far.
I’d read this one for the cover alone. I’m excited for another Dystopia, and I’m also really glad this book has a male protagonist. I guess lately most of the books I’ve read have had female main characters, which is great, but it’s nice to switch it every once and a while.
When We Wake
Say it with me: Cryonic freezing. Why don’t we have more books exploring this topic? Has the potential to be so terrifying and so interesting.
I read Cinder a few days ago in one sitting and was hooked. I’m so excited for this second installment in the series.
As far as the bookish world goes, I’m also looking forward to a few challenges and theme reads I plan on participating in(post forthcoming), and just reading more blogs and writing more in general.
What are you looking forward to in 2013?
